Our trip to Vermont

I have heard that Vermont is beautiful in the fall.  We were not disappointed :)  On Sunday we headed up to Sharon, VT to see the birthplace of Joseph Smith.  On the way there, we stopped at Quechee Gorge.  What an amazing sight!  We walked on some beautiful trails and had a lot of fun being outdoors with the gorgeous trees.  Afterwards, we drove to Sharon.  Joseph lived in some beautiful country!  There was such a wonderful spirit there.  I am so blessed to live so close to so many wonderful places.

Sunday Drive

Two Sundays ago, we took a ride up to the lower Berkshires.  The leaves had started to change on the trees and it was just a gorgeous drive.  We stopped off at a ski resort and took some pictures of the kids.

Gillette Castle

William Gillette is best known for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes on stage.  He was apparently quite the eccentric man, which is evident by his rather unusual house.

This is the train that Mr. Gillette would ride in on his train track that ran around his property.  He apparently had 15 cats that he would take on his train and make them wear hats during their train ride. Weirrrrd.

Though they are doing some work on the castle, this is exactly how it looked when he first built it…Like a bunch of crumbly rocks that are about to fall over at any moment.

This is one of his secret doors that he would go through that would lead him to another part of his house.  He used this door to jump out at his guests to make his grand entrance.

Kind of looks like the doors getting into Harry Potter…
